On 17th March 2025 a devastating fire took hold in the thatched cottages opposite the pub. What started as a small fire next to a chimney, quickly spread and destroyed a row of ancient thatched cottages owned by the National Trust in the heart of the village.
On 17th March 2025 a devastating fire took hold in the thatched cottages opposite the pub. What started as a small fire next to a chimney, quickly spread and destroyed a row of ancient thatched cottages owned by the National Trust in the heart of the village. No one was hurt but it was an extremely shocking and sad moment for residents of the village and all the people who know Drewsteignton and are very fond of it.
The National Trust is committed to rebuilding the 4 grade 2 listed thatched cottages. The site has been clad with scaffold and tarpaulins and now the painstaking task of reconstruction has started.
